Second Airbus A220-300 Joins Ibom Air’s Fleet, Enhancing Route Network – By Daisy BARRO

Ibom Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Akwa Ibom State Government, has announced the arrival of its second Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The jet touched down at Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo – Akwa Ibom State, on August 10, 2024, and was formally received by the State Government earlier today, August 20, 2024.

The Airbus A220-300, renowned for its fuel efficiency, environmental sustainability, and passenger comfort, will enable Ibom Air to increase flight frequencies on existing routes and explore new destinations.

During the reception ceremony, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State expressed enthusiasm for the development, stating, “The arrival of our second Airbus A220 reiterates the state’s unwavering commitment to advancing our aviation sector. This addition aligns with our strategic vision for Ibom Air and supports the economic growth and development of Akwa Ibom state by enhancing air travel and connectivity, creating job opportunities, and boosting tourism.”

Mr. Mfon Udom, CEO of Ibom Air, highlighted the importance of the addition. He expressed delight at the arrival of their second wholly owned Airbus A220, and noted that it would significantly enhance the airline’s capacity to respond to growing demand. The CEO appreciated the support of Nigerian financial institutions, particularly Fidelity Bank and Union Bank, and acknowledged customers’ patience during recent flight disruptions.

On his part, Kevin Ugwuoke, Executive Director of Fidelity Bank, representing the consortium of financiers expressed his delight at the achievement: “We share a common passion for Akwa Ibom state, and we are delighted to join them on this journey”, he declared.

The Airbus A220-300 acquisition from Carlyle Aviation aligns with Ibom Air’s strategic objective of rapidly increasing capacity and expanding its route network, adding to the nine remaining aircraft scheduled for delivery in the coming years. The airline’s fleet currently comprises seven (7) aircraft serving six (6) domestic destinations in Nigeria and one (1) regional route in Ghana.
