The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) recently sent a memo to a selected number of Airport Security Chiefs, alerting them of a looming security threat to some Nigerian airports/facilities as signaled by the Ministry of Aviation.
In the memo which is signed by the Deputy General Manager (DGM) of FAAN and dated April 9, 2021, the Authority warns of a “looming threat” to certain Nigerian airports including those in Kaduna, Maiduguri, Sokoto, Kano, Abuja and Lagos.
All security staff of airports within the national territory have been asked to stay alert and to tighten security at their terminals, but the aforementioned airports are mostly the points of focus.
The Chiefs of Security at the concerned airports have been asked to tender a list of existing and new ways to counter the threat.
They are also to “convene an emergency meeting of the airport security committee” of their airports so as to “review the status airport security, jointly recommend appropriate measures and share responsibility of effective implementation.”
