On Friday, March 7, 2025, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) hosted its groundbreaking and first-of-its-kind event themed “Accelerate Action Through Career Development and Strategies for Women’s Entrepreneurship” at The Sojourner by Genesis, Lagos. Organized by FAAN’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the celebration attracted notable dignitaries, both in person and virtually, marking the first of its kind under her leadership.
In her opening address, Mrs. Kuku captivated the audience, urging them to “imagine a gender-equal world.” She emphasized the critical importance of breaking invisible barriers of bias and stereotypes, asserting, “It is like finally using both wings of an airplane instead of trying to fly with just one.” She emphasized that gender equality is not just a fairness issue but also smart decision-making that fosters societal progress and innovation.
The event featured an impressive lineup of speakers, including Professor Anthony Kila and Dr. Toyin Magbagbeola who provided a virtual talk on mental health and wellness, encouraging women to prioritize their health.
Professor Kila challenged women to become ambassadors for advancement and to set the pace in their fields, stating, “Once you are seen as the giver, the solution finder, it becomes easier to become a leader to be recognized as a point of reference for progress and solution finding and that is the way to earn it and not beg for it.” A lively panel discussion delved into the challenges women face and practical strategies for accelerating careers that encouraged question-and-answer sessions where women had the opportunity to express their concerns on how to balance Accelerating action in their careers without affecting their roles as homemakers.
The ambiance at the event was nothing short of electric. Filled with engaging activities and celebratory moments, the gathering fostered a joyous atmosphere where women celebrated their strengths and shared insights. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by DP/CP Mrs. Obiageli Orah, leaving attendees motivated to take immediate action toward building an inclusive and equitable future.
FAAN’s 2025 International Women’s Day celebration has set the stage for impactful dialogues, collaboration, and actionable steps, aiming to #AccelerateAction toward a better, gender-equal world.
