Africa World Airlines Wins Safety Recognition Award – By Mary IRORO

Africa World Airlines (AWA) has won the prestigious Excellence in Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) 2024 Award for Aviation. The Award was presented at the 7th Ghana–West Africa Business Excellence Awards held recently at Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra organized by KN Unique Communications and endorsed by the West Africa Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The award, which was in recognition of the airline’s steadfast commitment to investing in safety with a flawless record of ZERO accident since it was established 11 years ago was received on behalf of the airline by Mr. Jonathan Appiah, Head of Commercial and Capt. Victor Aryeetey, Head of Safety. The award was presented to the airline by the Philippines Ambassador to Ghana, Ms. Maricel Villanueva Wu.

Commenting on the award, Capt. Victor Aryeetey said, “Ensuring safety isn’t merely an objective; it’s our solemn obligation, our unwavering commitment. Each individual who steps onto our aircraft is invaluable, and safeguarding their well-being is our paramount promise. This accolade serves not only as recognition of our accomplishments but also as a poignant reminder of the profound trust bestowed upon us by every passenger whenever they journey with us.”

Reiterating the airlines commitment to safety and sustainable practices with significant impact beyond financial gains, Mr. Jonathan Appiah stressed that, “Although we always strive to have on-time departures but sometimes due to operational and safety reasons there are some cancellations and delays.” He therefore took the opportunity to thank staff of AWA for their significant support and maintaining high operational standards and customer service excellence.
