In a laudable show of professionalism, one of Dana Air’s pilots expertly safeguarded the lives of fifty (50) passengers onboard flight 9J 344 during an incident which occurred at Port Harcourt airport recently.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of Dana Air, Kingsley Ezenwa, “Our aircraft with registration number 5N JOY operating flight 9J 344 from Port Harcourt to Lagos on 2nd of May, 2022 was set to take off when the pilot in command noticed an anomaly which he queried with the Air Traffic Control before embarking on a ramp return in line with our strict safety operating procedures.”
The statement goes on to state that as a result of the aborted takeoff, the impact of the brakes affected the aircraft tires, causing a spark as the jet was taxiing to re-park.
Thanks to the prompt and coordinated intervention of the flight crew, all fifty (50) passengers onboard the aircraft safely disembarked and no casualties were recorded, after which Dana Air’s maintenance team immediately grounded the jet pending the conclusion of the investigative process.
Following the incident, Dana Air duly cancelled the flight concerned and apologized to all the affected passengers for the inconvenience caused. The Management of the airline has reiterated the airline’s commitment to prioritize safety, while continuing to “operate in accordance with civil aviation regulations and global best practices.”
