The former Director General (DG) of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Dr. Anthony Anuforom has called on the general public to treat with utmost importance, forecasts coming from NiMET, in order to better plan every sector of the economy.
The former DG who made this call in Abuja recently, said: “The issue of weather and climate cannot be business as usual; we must take it more seriously. Take the forecasts and the advisories produced by NiMET very seriously, and factor them into planning in every sector in the national economy.”
He went on to say that the extreme weather and climate conditions we now have are not peculiar to Nigeria, as other nations are experiencing their share of the devastating effects of climate change; but added that what we have in Nigeria is worse than what is experienced in Europe.
Anuforom expressed pleasure at the work done by the current administration of NiMET, saying that under the present DG, Prof. Matazu, the Agency now occupies an important place in Nigeria. He continued by thanking the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, for making this possible by allowing national radio and television to be used as means of projecting NiMET and its agenda.
