TAAG Angola Airlines has officially become a member of the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), solidifying its role in connecting key destinations across Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

“This membership empowers TAAG’s reputation within the industry and underscores our growth footprint,” said Nelson de Oliveira, CEO at TAAG. “We intend to capture and facilitate traffic between the Americas and Africa, providing passengers with a value-added alternative for connecting with Europe via the Luanda Hub”, he divulged.

As a major carrier in the region, TAAG Angola operates domestic and international flights from its Luanda hub, including strategic routes to Havana, São Paulo, and other Latin American destinations through a code-share agreement with Brazilian airline GOL.

José Ricardo Botelho, ALTA’s Executive Director & CEO had this to say about the airline: “Its role in connecting Latin America, Africa, and Europe is key for the development of air transport. TAAG serves a wide range of passengers, including tourists, families, and business people”, he observed.

According to ALTA, Africa-Latin America connectivity has shown significant growth in 2024, with a 108% increase in seat offering and 97% rise in operated flights compared to the same period in 2023. This shift is expected to continue, with projected average annual growth rates set at 5.5% between Africa and South America, 3.8% between Africa and Central America, and 3.8% between Africa and the Caribbean.

To support this growth, TAAG is modernizing its fleet, having received one of 15 ordered A220 aircraft and four B787 airplanes on order from Boeing. The new jets, sources say, are to feature the carrier’s updated corporate image.

TAAG’s diverse fleet enables the airline to offer comprehensive transport solutions for passengers and cargo, reinforcing its commitment to global connectivity and economic development.
