TAAG Angola Takes Center Stage as 57th AFRAA AGA Commences In Luanda – By Ewos IRORO

TAAG Angola Airlines has once again taken center stage on the African continent by hosting the 57th Annual General Assembly (AGA) of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) holding at the HCTA Talatona Convention Centre in Luanda from November 30 to December 2, 2025.

The event which has as its theme: Sustainable Skies, Connected Africa, brought together African aviation leaders and international partners including government and diplomatic representatives, civil aviation senior executives and leaders, regulatory bodies, industry partners, and experts to discuss connectivity and sustainability of the sector, was also held on the sidelines of Angola’s 50th Independence Anniversary.

The 57th AFRAA AGA marks a historical moment for Angolan civil aviation, as the country hosts the prestigious international event which serves as the melting pot for major decisions concerning the continent’s aviation ecosystem.

Welcoming delegates to the AGA, Mr. Nelson Rodrigues de Oliveira, CEO, TAAG Angola Airlines said; “Despite the operational challenges and the infrastructure gaps that are real, our capacity for resilience, cooperation and innovation is greater. The 57th AFRAA AGA is our moment to challenge all barriers, building our partnership and ensure the principles collaboration are empowered by forging alliances, sharing best practices and productively build the sustainable skies and deliver a truly connected Africa that we all envision and deserve.”

The highlight of the gathering was the presentation of the African Airlines Association’s Annual Report on the state of the industry in Africa delivered by the Secretary General, Mr. Abdérahmane Berthé. He revealed ongoing projects within the association as well as shared valuable insights and statistics on Passenger traffic, fleet performance, market share, the degree of mobility and visa policies in Africa, as well as the progress of the implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), including the development prospects for the civil aviation ecosystem in Africa in the coming years, among others.

There was also a CEOs Roundtable which discussed the subject of, “Radical Reinvention for African Airlines amidst Ongoing Challenges as well as a presentation on the “Hub Strategy for Intra-African and Global Connectivity,” using “The Angola Aviation Transformation” as a case study.

The AGA attracted a total of 516 registered delegates from 49 countries across the globe. These include 68 delegates from 23 AFRAA member airlines, of which 6 are represented at the Board member level, as well as observers from 2 African non-AFRAA member airlines.
