The President of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA), Mrs. Susan Akporiaye has been recognized for her good leadership skills, which were put at the service of Nigerian travel agencies throughout the worst period of the COVID-19 pandemic. The recognition came in the form of a Media Platinum MERIT Award, which she received recently from the board of the Media Award institution.
According to sources, the NANTA boss was set apart for this award because of her impressive track record over the years and her resilience, which at the height of the pandemic helped the sub-sector weather the storm.
Mrs. Akporiaye, who was accompanied to the award stand by Mr. Yinka Folami, Lagos Zone Vice President – NANTA, and Slyvester Olobor, Executive Secretary – NANTA, said in her thank-you speech that she recognized that it can be very difficult to do business in Nigeria, but chided Nigerians to continue to speak well of their country, as the grass only seems to be greener elsewhere:
“Yes, it is tough doing business because of the impact of COVID-19. Yes, we have security challenges, but tell me where in the world is too safe and without challenges? As Nigerians, we must hold forth at our various corners and speak well of our country.”
Addressing the media, she said, “We respect the Nigerian media for its dogged partnership with NANTA. It didn’t start with me and it will not end with me, so this award means so much to me and our association. We shall do more for our country and people and will not disappoint you all.”
