The Nigerian aviation sector is bracing up for the 26th Annual Conference of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) – another engaging edition, where aviation bigwigs will rub minds on various issues afflicting the sector. The conference which will have as theme, “Sunset Airports: Economic & Safety Implications” is scheduled to hold on July 28, 2022 at Sheraton Hotel, Lagos.
As stated by the Chairman, Conference Committee – LAAC, Mr. Chinedu Eze, “Our past conferences have helped to shape the industry for the better. While we agree that there are challenges in the sector, it is also the League’s belief that the challenges are not insurmountable.”
He revealed that this year’s theme was chosen based on the difficulties encountered while carrying out operations in sunset airports, affirming that many industry players prefer when planes fly constantly, but know this is not feasible for the time being, since most Nigerian airports can only support daylight operations – a situation which, by the way, is not peculiar to Nigeria.
The Secretary, LAAC Conference Committee, Mr. Albinus Chiedu, expressed confidence that like LAAC’s previous conferences, this edition will have a positive effect on the sector; noting that guests will have the option of participating physically or virtually, in a bid to accommodate all those wishing to be part of the event.
As with previous editions, LAAC’s 26th Annual Conference will be graced by key players from the relevant government agencies and parastatals such as the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET); the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA); the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA); Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT); the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN); Accident Investigation Bureau – Nigeria (AIB-N); the Lagos State government; the Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Aviation amongst others.
LAAC is the body responsible for ensuring effective reporting of issues pertaining to the Nigerian aviation sector, and its annual conferences do not only propagate the implementation of aviation best practices, but also serve as avenues for businesses to sell their unique brands through various sponsorship opportunities.
