Kenya Airways has introduced a new value addition to its products to Nigerian travelers with the introduction of what the airline described as its Stopover Programme in an effort to promote tourism and leisure travel into the country. The programme will allow travelers to explore Kenya’s rich wildlife, scenic beauty and culture while on transit through Nairobi to other destinations. The Airline’s Regional Manager for the Americas and West Africa, Mr. Stephen Ngamau made this known at a media conference held at the airline’s office in Lagos recently.

“We want to also have stopover programmes. This means if you are going to a final destination and on a transit in Kenya, you could enter into Kenya for the remaining 24 hours or 6 to 8 hours; you could get out and enjoy a safari even in the city because we do have a national park, and then come back and continue your journey. So we are having various opportunities that could be available to Nigerian travelers,” said Mr. Ngamau.

Speaking further, he noted that the Nigerian market is quite an important market and a very attractive destination for Kenya Airways to serve due to its economic and cultural potential as one of the biggest economies in Africa. He noted therefore that as part of its commitment to better serve its customers, the airline increased its capacity to Lagos by 21% with an increase in frequencies from 7 to 10 weekly flights; providing greater flexibility and convenience for its customers and reinforcing its dedication to the Nigerian market.

Furthermore, in addition to its current services to London Heathrow, Mr. Ngamau also revealed that Kenya Airways will launch flight operations into Gatwick.

“We are also happy and excited to announce that we have a new addition to our network in Europe, and that’s London Gatwick. We know the UK is a big destination for Nigerians so we are happy to connect London Gatwick as an additional destination to the Nigerian market. The service will commence in July 2025 and will be operated 3 times weekly with plans to progressively increase the frequency as we grow the market,” he enthused; adding that, “Kenya Airways is committed to continuously offer excellent service to its customers.”
