One of Africa’s leading airlines, Ethiopian Airlines (ET) has announced that it will be procuring five (05) freighter airplanes in an effort to meet growing demand for its cargo services.

According to ET’s Group CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew: “We always strive to serve our customers with the latest technology aircraft the aviation industry can offer. The addition of these five B777 freighters into our cargo fleet will enable us to meet the growing demand in our cargo operations. While cementing our partnership with the Boeing Company with new orders, the growth of our freighter fleet takes the capacity and efficiency of our shipment service to the next level”, he said.

On his part, Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, Mr. Ihssane Mounir commented thus about the development: “Additional 777 freighters will enable Ethiopian to capitalize on near-term cargo demand, while positioning the airline for further expansion in the future. We value the trust that Ethiopian Airlines places in the 777 freighter to support its cargo ambitions.”

Worthy of note is the fact that ET’s Cargo and Logistics Services already deploys nine (09) 777 freighter jets across one hundred and twenty-seven (127) international destinations; connecting Africa to sixty-six (66) cargo centres distributed across the Americas, the Middle East, Asia and Europe – which is no surprise seeing as the B777 twin-engine freighter jet, currently the world’s largest and longest range airplane, combines the above qualities with remarkable fuel-efficient aptitude to provide increased capability and flexibility.

ET currently operates a combined fleet of eighty (80) Boeing airplanes consisting of 787s, 737s, 777s, 767s as well as 737-800 converted freighters.
