In a bid to foster safety and security in the aviation sector, President Muhammadu Buhari recently signed into law Civil Aviation Act, 2022 – a decree which repudiates the previous bill, Civil Aviation Act No. 6 signed in 2006.

This was revealed latterly in Abuja, in a statement by Hon. Bashir Babale Illah, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives).

According to Mr. Illah, the current edict will make certain that Nigeria executes all her obligations as spelled out in international aviation agreements, as well as ensure that Nigerian civil aviation has an efficient institutional and legal frame of reference for its regulation.

He went on to add that the bill will also strengthen the process of civil aviation regulation in the country, mindful of the ultimate goal which is to “promote aviation safety and security” in the nation.

Alongside Civil Aviation Act, 2022, the following seven (07) bills were also signed: Nigeria Meteorological Agency (Establishment) Act, 2022; Counseling Practitioners Council of Nigeria Act, 2022; Chartered Institute of Social Work Practitioners (Establishment) Act, 2022; Nigerian Council for Management Development Act, 2022; Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria Act, 2022; Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2022 and National Institute of Credit Administration (Establishment) Act, 2022.
