The new Secretary General (SG) of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC/CAFAC), Adefunke Adeyemi, has officially assumed office, following her appointment nearly two months ago. She made the announcement yesterday September 1, 2022, via an Introductory Letter to the industry.

In her correspondence, Adeyemi expresses her desire to serve, while promising to collaborate with stakeholders, member states and various partners of AFCAC in positively transforming air transport on the African continent:

“We are here to serve and deliver on our mandates and objectives of ensuring a liberalized, safe, secure, environmentally friendly, reliable, sustainable and modern air transport industry in Africa. We are also well guided by the president and members of the AFCAC Bureau, who provide oversight and direction to the Secretariat. We are all at your service”, it reads.

She further reiterates her desire to “translate the immense potential of African aviation into reality” – a point she previously stressed following her election into office.

Adeyemi was announced SG of AFCAC on July 15, 2022 during the 34th AFCAC Plenary in Dakar – Senegal, on what occasion she emphasized the pre-eminence of synergy between African civil aviation and the tourism and trade sectors – a synergy which she maintained must be “intentional”, if the goal is to ensure the survival of civil aviation in Africa.
