The Director-General (DG), of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, has highlighted the importance of effective industrial relations, constructive engagement, and mutual understanding between management and staff within the Nigerian aviation sector. The DG made his remarks at the kickoff of the Joint Training Programme on industrial relations and negotiation skills, organized by the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA) in conjunction with the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF).

The training, which kicked off today Monday March 23, 2026 at the NCAA Training Hall in Ikeja, Lagos, brought together aviation professionals from across Africa and the Middle East to enhance workplace relations and negotiation skills; emphasizing the significance of effective collaboration and dialogue in the aviation industry.

In his remarks, the DG NCAA highlighted the rapidly evolving nature of the aviation sector, citing increasing operational demands, technological advancements, and complex workforce dynamics as factors underscoring the need for constructive engagement and mutual understanding between management and staff. “The aviation industry requires stability, professionalism, and trust. Disruptions, no matter how well-intentioned, carry significant implications not only for operations but also for safety, economic stability, and public confidence,” he noted.

The training programme, Najomo divulged, aims to promote social dialogue, enhance negotiation capacity, and foster a culture of partnership within the aviation ecosystem. He commended the initiative, stating, “The emphasis on dialogue as a first resort, and industrial action only as a last resort is apt. For us at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, we remain steadfast in promoting a just culture, strengthening institutional frameworks, and ensuring that all aviation professionals operate within an environment that supports both safety and fairness.”

The event will equally provide an opportunity for participants to engage with facilitators and share experiences, with the DG encouraging attendees to take full advantage of the programme to enhance their professional effectiveness and contribute to safer and more resilient aviation systems across the region.
