The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has underscored the pivotal role of human expertise in ensuring safety and efficiency in the nation’s airspace, during the Directorate of Air Traffic Services (ATS) Retreat in Ibadan, Oyo State. Delivering the opening remarks on behalf of NAMA’s Managing Director/CEO, Director of Human Resources and Administration, Abimbola Ladipo Esq., highlighted the agency’s commitment to empowering its workforce.
Ladipo commended the ATS Directorate for organizing the timely retreat, themed “Empowering People, Elevating Safety: Advancing Air Traffic Services Through Training and Culture (A Skilled Team for a Safer Sky).” He noted that while technology and infrastructure are crucial, “it is the human element that remains paramount” in interpreting data, making swift decisions, and maintaining peak safety standards.
“The transformation of Nigeria’s air navigation services will not be realized without deliberate investment in our workforce,” Ladipo emphasized, stressing the need for continuous training, leadership development, and fostering an organizational culture centered on safety and professionalism.
NAMA Management reaffirmed its dedication to equipping ATS personnel with requisite tools, training, and a supportive environment. “We recognize the challenges you encounter and are actively engaged in modernizing our systems, enhancing capacity-building initiatives, and fostering a workplace culture that ensures every officer feels valued, supported, and motivated,” Ladipo stated.
The retreat aims to assess current capabilities, address gaps, adapt to evolving ICAO standards, and reinforce a culture of excellence in Nigeria’s air traffic services. Participants were urged to engage proactively, with outcomes expected to guide policy interventions for workforce empowerment and enhanced safety.
