In a strategic move to increase its capacity and meet the growing demand for its services, Ibom Air has grown its fleet by acquiring an additional Airbus A220-300. The airline took delivery of the new aircraft on July 11, 2024, at Maastricht Airport in the Netherlands.
The acquisition is a significant milestone for Ibom Air, which had previously ordered ten (10) Airbus A220-300 aircraft in October 2021; taken delivery of one (1) out of the ten (10) jets ordered, but found the need to make the extra purchase in the interim in order to meet the growing demand for its services. The delivery of this additional aircraft brings the airline’s fleet of A220s to eleven (11), with the remaining nine (9) jets expected to be delivered sometime in the future.
The purchase from Carlyle Aviation was financed by Fidelity and Union Banks, with Fidelity as the majority partner, demonstrating the growing support of Nigerian financial institutions for the airline’s growth.
Ibom Air’s Executive team, led by the airline’s CEO Mfon Udom; the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno amongst others graced the delivery event.
The airline currently operates to one (1) regional and six (6) domestic destinations with a fleet of seven (7) aircraft, including five (5) Bombardier CRJ 900s and two (2) Airbus A220-300s.
