Nigeria’s biggest indigenous airline, Air Peace, has deployed one of its Boeing 777 aircraft to commence airlifting pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj season. The airline commenced said operations today May 26, 2023 after the carrier secured a mandate to that end from the Federal Government earlier this month.
According to a statement by the management of the airline, Air Peace is one of the airlines approved by the Federal Government to fly pilgrims, and has signed an agreement with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to that effect.
The Chairman of Air Peace, Mr. Allen Onyema, has attributed the airline’s involvement in this yearly ritual to his patriotism and his desire to foster sentiments of national pride in every Nigerian.
Hajj is an annual islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, the holy city. It is expected to be undertaken by every adult muslim at least once in their lifetime.
