Engr. Akin Olateru, the Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) has been named Aviation CEO of 2021. The award was presented during the Travellers Award ceremony at NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja recently.
In his speech, Olateru dedicated the award to all aviation CEOs in the country. He thanked the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika; all those who voted for him to be thus honoured and his “wonderful AIB team”, noting that he could not have done it without them. According to the CEO, the recognition granted through the award will certainly make everyone work harder to deliver:
“I would like to thank all those that voted for me to be awarded the Aviation CEO of the year 2021. This is a way to boost our performances because as a public servant, you are not a shareholder in the organization. There is no profit that comes to you at the end of the day. So for people to see what we are doing and to give us an award is our reward”, he said.
This is not the first time the AIB boss is being honoured for his valued contribution to the Nigerian aviation industry. Following his assumption of office in 2017, Engr. Olateru has received noteworthy awards such as Outstanding Leadership Award (2019); Aviation Man of the Year (2019); Honorary Fellow of Crisis and Disaster Risk Management (2020); Aviation 100 Nigeria (2021) and numerous others, all in celebration of his outstanding leadership qualities.
Other awardees at the event were Ibom Air, Dana Air, Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc. (SAHCOL), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) etc.
