After two years of flight suspension, Ethiopian Airlines (ET) has revealed that it is considering October 1st, 2021 for the resumption of flights to Enugu. The news was disclosed over the weekend by Shimeles Arage, ET’s General Manager (GM).

As per Mr. Arage, October 1 – Nigeria’s Independence Day, was chosen for the reopening of the route because of the airline’s desire to show its solidarity with the Nigerian people; recalling that ET was the sole international carrier plying the route prior to the airport’s closure in 2019.

“Oct. 1 is Nigeria’s Independence Day and the flight to Enugu on that day will reinforce Ethiopian Airlines’ good relations with Nigeria since the first flight to Nigeria in 1960,” he said.

The GM went on to reveal that as concerns the flight schedule, prospective passengers should expect flights into and out of Enugu three times a week i.e. Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, featuring a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

It should be recalled that ET suspended flights to the South-Eastern state in 2019, after the airport was shut down by the Nigerian aviation authorities following plans to revamp the runway. While the airport was only recently opened for international flights, (August 2021), it has been opened for domestic flights since 2020.
