In an announcement made on Friday, United Airlines revealed plans to commence flights between the cities of Washington D.C and Lagos on November 29, 2021 – as soon as the government gives its approval – with ticket sales commencing this weekend.
According to the airline’s Vice President of International Network and Alliances, Patrick Quayle, “This new flight to Lagos has been highly anticipated by our customers and offers the first ever nonstop service between Washington D.C. and Nigeria, as well as convenient, one-stop connections to over 80 destinations throughout the Americas including Houston and Chicago.”
He went on to thank the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation for their support in ensuring that such a move be possible, saying that Lagos will be joining fifty other nonstop international destinations presently served by Washington D.C.
Mr. Quayle further divulged that United Airlines will be deploying a Boeing 787 Dreamliner to ply the route, featuring 28 United Polaris business class lie-flat seats, 21 United Premium Plus economy seats, 36 Economy Plus seats and 158 standard economy seats.
According to sources, the airline will operate three weekly flights connecting the two cities. Flights will depart Washington D.C. on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays and return from Lagos on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
It should be noted that this year, United Airlines also commenced flights between Washington D.C. and Accra, Ghana; New York/Newark and Johannesburg, South Africa; and currently has plans of re-starting service between New York/Newark and Cape Town, South Africa on December 1, 2021.
